Reflections for DE Adventure Camp 2007 (Part 3)

And to end off the trilogy of reflections for the DEAC, we have Sebastian and Yu Han!

Reflection #4
DEAct was fun! I really enjoyed myself there. It was a new experience for me too and I really learn a lot about conquering my fears through God. The low ropes course on the first day was fun. Though it was not really challenging , it helped me know more about teamwork as in how the team think of the solution together and work it out.

The second day was a lot more challenging that the first day. The ‘broken bridge’ was quite scary for me but after I fall the first time , I realize the belay was there so falling wasn’t a problem but walking on the bridge was as the bridge shakes with your legs.

There was the rafting for the second part of the course on the second day and I think the team really bonded together to build the raft and sail it. After that was rock climbing and I felt that rock climbing is all about pushing yourself. It rained after that , but I wanna thank God for only letting the rain come and everyone has already finished all of the activity course. The BBQ that came after was great.

In all the camp was great and I really wanna thank God for making the camp a success and not letting any injures or bad weather dampen the camp.

Reflection #5
I really want to thank God for everyone who made this wonderful camp possible!

Initially, I was very hesitant about signing up for the camp. I didn’t know anyone other than my cell group, and did not take to new people particularly well. But God smoothed over all the awkward moments, and I experienced the family’s love and warmth. I got to know many of my brothers and sisters, and had great fun in addition to worshipping the Lord and drawing near to Him.

I never looked back.

I was also very blessed by Clarissa’s testimony. Her courage in sharing about her life to others, even total strangers, was touching to behold. Through her sharing, God also reminded me that though all of us are sinners, God loves us all the same. I have been running away from God the past year, what with innumerable exams, projects and whatnot. But that day, I learned that all things were temporal except that in the Lord. There and then, I decided to put God first. Although I am sorely tempted to renege on my promise to Him even as school has already begun, I believe that as long as I trust in God, all things are possible!

An important turning point came when we were asked to read the second devotion on Sunday. I teared as I read. Asked to answer the questions it held, I had nothing to say. To the world, Christianity is a commercialized affair. Christmas means nothing more than expensive presents, pretty baubles, and a myriad Christmas traditions- none of which has to do with God. In my family with its many non-Christian relatives, Christmas is celebrated pretty much the same way. It was only then that I realized that sure, there was nothing wrong with having the spirit of giving, but more importantly, Christ has to be at the centre of our life, especially so on Christmas Day. For without Christ, there is no ‘Christmas’!

Oh yes, my cousin (Liu Ying) enjoyed the camp tremendously as well, so thank you very much for this camp!

God bless,
Yuhan
