World of God speak

So, the Harry Potter wave is back, with every single conversation dominating with: ‘have u read the book?’ to ‘what do you think about the book’… Nope, this is not gonna be a spoiler session, but rather, a revelation on the story presented in the book that has direct relevance to our lives.
Remember the days when there was big objection to allowing children to read the books because it was magic and against the Christian religion? Well, from what I have read on paganism (witchcraft), I can safely say that Harry Potter has zero relevance to all that. I would dare say that those people who uses ‘witchcraft’ as an excuse to dismiss the book would be rather short-sighted, because it is one of the best fictions ever written.

Let’s draw a parallel between Harry’s world and our world- magic is a skill, like our faith. So if we put it in that context, our prayers would be our spells and our wands would be our bible (Eph 6:17), Lord Voldemort would be the devil himself. There are a few things to take away from the book;

first is that love conquers all;

secondly, we all live for a purpose, that is what keeps us going. Those are the main messages of the entire series, not about the magic, not about the violence. In many ways, JK did put the books into a very believable perspective- she didn’t make it a ‘happy ending’ where all the good guys live and have a ‘all bad guys lose’ scenario- there were harm inflicted on the good as well, indicating that if we were to fight for the cause, it’s not gonna be easy and it’s gonna hurt.

The third message that I got since book one is that we, Man, are ignorant fools. The devil is back, he’s here to mess up our lives and wreck our relationships. Yet, many people are ignorant of it, wanting to continue their normal lifestyles because they know, like the matrix, taking the red pill changes everything- the world you see will no longer be bright and rosy, but it’s a war. Of course, there’s the other group of people, some leaders in the Christian community (parallel to the Ministry of Magic) who are ignorant because they do not want to see their years of effort in creating peace go to waste, they fear because they believe that they have no power to fight back- they try to oppress the masses to avoid the situation.

So, can we still say that reading Harry Potter is just for pure entertainment or that it would skew you towards the dark side? I would beg to differ. God has used this simple children’s fiction to reflect the realities of the world, things that we’ve taken for granted, things that we ought to be aware of.

There is a war brewing on its way and we’ve gotta stand prepared to fight.
