Paradigm Shift!

A paradigm. The glasses through which you look at the world and everything in it, the pair of shoes in which you walk this road called life. Even as I was on my way to school for my first class on a monday morning, fresh from an extremely enriching weekend- I still felt inevitably groggy getting up after turning in just three hours before. My eyes were barely holding up, my feet felt heavy, things seemed like they were moving in slow motion. Right, Im not alone, I assure myself.

And so I asked, ‘God how will this week be any different?’

For those of you who were around last weekend, Ed Silvoso pointed out that Church and the Marketplace are not two entirely different climates. Though Monday mornings always feel starkly different- You might feel like you return to a world where people are not as kind with their words, less affirming and encouraging, less sensitive to your needs and wants, less reasonable, less sincere, less…less…Less perfect.

And You’re not alone!

Even as we set out to bless, I first cringed because I knew that blessing isn’t just about blessing the ‘Bless-worthy’- just like loving isn’t just about loving the lovable. But that’s exactly how god is challenging us! Are you sure you are any more lovable in god’s eyes? Our sinful nature has called for the death of His son Jesus Christ on the cross as payment and redemption on our behalf. We were far from worthy!

But he says ‘You are my children, I love you, and there’s nothing you can do about it.’
Jesus, who was pure and blameless, perfect but yet chose to die for the imperfect, with no strings attached, just so we could be saved and walk in a different pair of shoes, just so we could live the life that has been planned ahead of us, victory even in defeat, breakthroughs even at dead ends, joy in sorrow, hope even in disappointment, boldness even in fear.

And when we see that despite the many roles that we play, which in my case, is a student, a son, a brother, a friend, what really encompasses everything is that of a worshipper. When we walk in those shoes, we begin to look at everything as an act of worship unto Him, so why should things be any different when we return to our marketplace on Monday? How would Jesus love the grumpy bus driver, the crude and insensitive friend, the apathetic group member?

Just as He loves you!

So even as we set out to bless, let us first remember that we were first blessed. As we set out in love, let us remember how we were first loved. Let us not be fearful, but walk instead in the boldness that comes with His spirit. Who knows what the future might hold! But I know that God has gone ahead of me and He shields my way, so all I need to do is get up and start walking!

No, it isnt easy. But He has promised that if we were to walk in His ways, We will live and increase, and He will bless us in the land we are entering to possess.

Deuteronomy 30: 16

The marketplace- it’s ours for the taking!
