Back to basics

Kia Ora from the land of sheep, New Zealand.

It’s been a week since I am here and am still in the midst of finding a church to settle down, finding a group of Christians to fellowship with, etc.

Today, I attended this forum that brought a few members of the Overseas Christian Fellowship together to discuss on a topic related to Christ. Throughout the discussion, many points of view were brought forth and it was really engaging, but it nearly turned into a debate, mainly of one reason- the difference in the Christian environment which we were brought up in. There were Baptist, Methodist and for me, more towards the Charismatic side.

Again, back to Darren’s post on the untitled entry on God’s revelation to him from the series The O.C.- ‘do you focus on what separates you? Or do you focus on what keeps you two together?’ Well, in this case, it would be the Christians as a whole. Throughout the discussions, there were points that were raised out that caused me to question, which is the right way of worshipping God, of seeking God and eventually, I realised that it’s not in the perfection of how we draw closer to God, but the motive that we draw close to God. It’s going back to the basic- it’s all about Christ, it is about who Christ is to us.

At one point in my life, when there were questions that I wasn’t able to seek logic or answers to resolve them, I just told myself: ‘trust in God and God alone.’ No matter how illogical the situation may seem, no matter how impossible the situation may seem, don’t think, just believe. I was thinking, that was either faith or pure delusional. I was asked this question today, during the session, whether I have found my answer. I said yes. However, now that I’m out of the session and thinking about it again, that was a politically correct answer. I haven’t found out the truth yet, not until I stand before the gates of heaven, because there is no physical evidence to prove the reality, only in spirit and in my heart.

So, with the overseas experience, comes the challenge of accepting the ways of how others worship God, it is still the same God and there is no saying that our methods are more spiritual and holy than the others, but rather, going back to the basics- it’s all about God and God alone.

Hope everyone’s well and doing great in Singapore (don’t envy me, it’s freezing cold here and I’m missing the heat and Chinese food!)

God bless

Love, Hwei San
