The 100k campaign begins!

Just a few days ago I was talking to this really close friend of mine. While we were talking, the topic on Christianity was brought up. I asked him did he believe in God. He told me he didn’t believe in God and further explained that God ‘let him down’ in a certain way. After hearing his story I kind of realised, yes indeed I have gone through tough times, times that really break me down, times when I feel absolutely helpless. It got me to think why does God allow us to go through tough times like this, why does he allow us to suffer?

In the bible it says we are the clay and God is the potter. Part of the process in making pottery out of clay is heating. I believe clay is heated in order for it to harden up and maintain the right shape. Similarly whenever we go through tough times it shapes us to the right shape and it also makes us stronger. Another reason why God allow us to go through a tough period is to test to see if we really do have faith in him. Take Abraham for example, in Genesis 22, he was tested, God asked him to kill his own son Isaac. When Abraham was about to kill Isaac, God stopped him. Seeing such faith Abraham had in him God blessed Abraham. Tough and difficult times are like examinations. Exams help us to see our current standard and also the areas we have to work and improve on. Similarly, a difficult time exposes our weaknesses and areas that we should work and improve on. Also if we do well in our exams, our rewards are certainly great. Similarly if we passed the test that God has laid for us we will also be rewarded greatly.

To summarize everything, God’s reason in allowing us to go through difficult times, is for us to become stronger and is also for us to build up faith in him. The next time you faced an uphill task just remember that the Lord is with you and he does have his purpose in leaving you in that current situation, have faith, just persevere and you will turn out victorious!

We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed, perplexed, but not in despair, persecuted, but not abandoned, struck down, but not destroyed. 2 Corinthians 4:8-9
