The Insecurity Guard

How many of us actually feel perfectly confident every day? I can say for sure that no one person is immune to inferiority attacks – moments when you just feel that you are not good enough and nothing anyone says can persuade you otherwise. I had a dose(a rather big one) of this feeling when I recently received news from SMU that I did not make it into their Law faculty. As much as I would like to act all gung ho and pretend that I’m too-cool-for-that-‘lousy’-school, I have to admit that I did feel disappointed and rather lousy. As much as I’d like to poke fun at the people who got accepted and laugh at their hoity toity put on accents, I cannot deny that I felt miserably inferior with my Singapore accent and what not.

As I was praying about it, something Pastor Khong said in one of his previous sermons jumped at me – ‘Failure does not mean that God has abandoned you, it just means God has a better idea!’ So as I had to post a devotion anyway, I decided to just expound on the theme of failure and give some quotes of my own.

There will definitely be times when people or happenings bring your spirits down but why let it get to you permanently? BOUNCE BACK AND ASTOUND!

When people say that you are not good enough,
Tell them that you’re GREAT(God’s Enthusiastically Admired Treasure)

When people say that you’re hopeless,
Respond that you have HOPE(Heaven Opens when Prayers Enter)

When people tell you you’re far from beautiful,
Admit that you are UGLY(Unbelievable God’s Loved Youth)

When people tell you that you’re a freak,
Tell them that WEIRD is just the World’s Effort In Rationalising Discrimination

And you’re just UNIQUE,
thank you very much.

And when people tell you that you that the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is a dumping ground,
Respond that FASS is For All Smart Students! (okay that’s basically for the older kids like me. )

I strongly believe that in every seemingly hopeless situation, God’s grace is present. It depends on how you look at it? Why mull and howl and tear your hair out when you can just take the easier way out by looking to God for comfort? There is no bad situation just a bad perspective. God has a beautiful plan for all my beautiful friends so let’s guard our hearts from any feelings of inferiority.

“Do not let your heart envy sinners but always be zealous for the fear of the Lord. There is surely a future hope for you. And your hope will not be cut off..” Prov 23:17-18

U.G.L.Y signs out,
