Surrender or SURRENDER?

Genesis 22:1-19
Abraham Tested
1 Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, "Abraham!" "Here I am," he replied.
2 Then God said, "Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about."
3 Early the next morning Abraham got up and saddled his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about. 4 On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. 5 He said to his servants, "Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you."
6 Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together, 7 Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, "Father?" "Yes, my son?" Abraham replied. "The fire and wood are here," Isaac said, "but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?"
8 Abraham answered, "God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son." And the two of them went on together.
9 When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. 11 But the angel of the LORD called out to him from heaven, "Abraham! Abraham!" "Here I am," he replied.
12 "Do not lay a hand on the boy," he said. "Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son."
13 Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram [
a] caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said, "On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided."
15 The angel of the LORD called to Abraham from heaven a second time 16 and said, "I swear by myself, declares the LORD, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17 I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, 18 and through your offspring [
b] all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me."
19 Then Abraham returned to his servants, and they set off together for Beersheba. And Abraham stayed in Beersheba.

Even as I read the above passage, the first thought that came to my mind was: okay God, its the issue of surrender again. I realised that many know that the key to victory in life is to surrender our lives wholly and completely into God's hands, to be fully submitted to His will and purposes. But out of the many, people are committing the act of "blindly surrendering". What do I mean by that? Basically, we surrender only because sometimes 1) its the only way out 2) we do not want to incur God's wrath 3) we want to enjoy as many blessings as possible.

However even as I read through this familiar passage once again, God brought a new revelation and a deeper meaning to the act of surrendering.

2 key points to take note of when we surrender:

1) We surrender out of Godly Fear of the Lord (v12)

2) We surrender because we know that the Lord will provide (v14)

Abraham truly knew the significance behind the heart and act of surrendering. That is why it was possible for him to sacrifice Issac, just like how God sacrificed Jesus(but of course, for a different purpose). Abraham feared the Lord and knew that God deserved the highest authority in his life, and in everything that was commanded by Him. Therefore when he surrendered, he did it out of knowing that no matter what, only God is in control. Dont you think this makes surrendering so much more meaningful and at the same time easier? Because we put our hopes and fears in a God who is mighty and powerful, definitely mighty to save and preserve us in the harshest circumstances.

Moving on to the 2nd point, we should surrender because we know that the Lord will provide. Personally, this point speaks stronger to me. Though there are many uncertainties and doubts that I have with regards to my A level results(yes they are worrysome), but somehow there is much peace within my heart. Why so? This brings me back to the year 2006, whereby in many occasions I repeatedly surrendered this area of my life to God, i.e studies, bit by bit. Gradually God prepared me and walked with me thus far, causing me to truly understand and experience the security in knowing that the Lord will provide. Honestly, I didnt do as well as expected, but God has provided so much peace and security in Him that its so undescribable. This showed that God has provided for me- a peace in knowing that no matter what happens, I'm safe in His arms and as long as I continue to walk with Him, I'll never fall out of His will and plans for me. This then brings me to yet another point, that the Lord provides in ways that are unexpected and sometimes we do not understand, which is why we also need total faith and total trust in this awesome God who knows everything and the BEST for us!

Therefore I sincerely urge all of us to view Surrender in a different light. By now you should all understand my title, surrender(blindly surrendering) or SURRENDER(fear+knowledge of God's provision)?
