"Suffer hardship with {me,} as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier." - 2 Tim 2:3-4

Unless u have a medical issue, every guy in Singapore goes thru National Service. In it we are drilled, marched, pumped and whipped into shape to be called soldiers. We are called to defend our country when the time arises, putting out lives on the line to protect the land we call home, to protect its people and its way of life. When we finish our 2 yrs of NS, we ORD which stands for Operationally Ready Date. From that point onwards we are deemed as ready to be deployed in times of war. Within NS we are still undergoing training.

God called us to be soldiers for Him. In the times where we are still members, being cared for by our leaders as sheep, is like our spiritual NS. We learn about how to know God, how to read the bible, how to love, how to pray, how to seek God, how to fight a spiritual fight, how to father.... and after a certain time when we have grown deep in the Lord as well as equipped ourselves with our arsenal of spiritual skills, we 'ORD'. And then we become Fathers... that's when we are ready to fight for God, to put our lives 'on the line' to protect God's kingdom and its people.

What makes an army of God strong? It requires more than just 1 or a few to have that correct attitude. The verse above talks about not entangling ourselves in the affairs of everyday life. So what does the 'affairs of everyday life' here refer to? I believe that other than the obvious ones like finances, BGR, worrying about our jobs, school, future etc, it also involves adopting the correct kingdom values. Coz would u die for a cause u do not believe it? An army is only strong when everyone in it shares the common vision and passion. It is only strong when everyone puts their own agenda aside and fight for a common goal. Take the show 300 for example. It depicts how an army with a common vision being led by one leader can do near miraculous things like hold out an army of hundreds of thousands for 3 days! Other than tat personal training, sharpening of our skills and also upholding the coporate values also plays a crucial part.

Year of Victory will not come easy without a fight. Yes the victory is already there for us to take, but we must still fight for it. Put aside all ur selfish desires for gratification. Put aside ur petty differences. Put on the Godly values that God has given us and enrol into His army. It is both a personal fight as well as a coporate fight. Draw strength in the family of God u have been put in. We do all these to please the One that called us. Let's fight the good fight!
