Being a disciple is more than simply being a Christian.
A disciple is a follower, a student. The posture of a disciple is one of ‘
You have something I don’t have but I want, and I’m going to learn it from You’.

When we think of Jesus’ disciples, what comes to mind? People who were anointed, who were right ‘up there’ with Jesus, who were spiritual and better than the rest of us..etc..
But His disciples are actually just like you and me. They were not larger than life. They were merely ordinary people chosen by Jesus to follow Him closely.

They were clueless. Sometimes when Jesus talked in parables, they had to ask Him questions because they didn’t get it. So don’t worry if you don’t understand what the Bible is saying sometimes, because you’re not alone.
They were obedient. Whatever Jesus told them, they did without hesitating or questioning His motives. They even left all they had behind just to follow Him.
They were trusting. They had faith that Jesus was God, and were willing to follow Him no matter what it took.
They were loving. They cared for Jesus and frequently made sure He ate his meals.
They were servants. Their complete obedience pleased Jesus.
They were students. Most of them were uneducated people, and could not comprehend His power and the miracles He performed. But, they were determined to listen and learn, for they knew He had tremendous wisdom and truth to share.
They were friends of God. Jesus’ twelve often left the crowds to be alone with Him and listen to things He shared only with them.
They were disciples.

A disciple is one who is
Jesus-centred.
Ongoing. We never ‘graduate from the school of discipleship’.
Seeking Christ-likeness as the ultimate goal

To be a true disciple of God, we have to not only believe in Jesus and His teachings, but also live an exemplary life of righteousness and disciple others, helping them grow in their faith.
