Thanksgiving + Devotion
Genesis 11

The tower of Babel was a great human achievement, a wonder of the world. But it was a monument to the people themselves rather than to God. We often build monuments to ourselves (expensive cothes, shoes, jobs) to add on to our acheivement lists. These may not be wrong in themselves, but when we use them to give us an identity and self worth, they take God's place in our lives. We are free to develop in many areas, but we are not free to think we have replaced God.

What are some "monuments" in your life that you hold so dearly too? It could be a relationship, a friendship, material goods, money, pride, the need to do well to prove yourself good... lets take some time to reflect on our lives. If there is any "monuments" in your life, it will hinder your relationship with God.

In the past, i used to place my identity and self worth in FRIENDS. I am someone who dun believe in having alot of friends... as long as i have one true friend.. it is enough.. and i will find my significance in that someone.. or just a few other special ones. In sec sch, that person was non other than Audrey aka ODD. She was someone who i hold very tightly too.. every recess, every bus ride to sch, every bus ride home, every toilet break, everytime lah, i will be with her... haha.. so much so, common friends and teachers think we are togehter.. you know.. in that sense.. haha. (DISCLAIMER: WE ARE NOT.) Each time i din have her by my side, i would get very insecure and unhappy..well, that was the sec sch days. Thanks be to God when He used her to bring me to Christ. It was really amazing. I slowly bagan to find my significance in the Lord.. and hey..! We still share a close relationship together now.. minus all the insecure and unhappy feeling.. If you were to ask me now, what is the difference in our friendship.. the answer is, God exists in my friendship with her now. The time i spend with Audrey now is like less that 1% of what i used to spend with her in Sec Sch.. but the way we talk and share is still the same.. why? Cos the friendship is built by God.. no longer by me.. Praise the Lord!

Is there an area in your live that you are holding tightly too? Putting your significance and identity in? It is time to let go and let God.. like how i did it, the Lord preserved wad is precious to me in a new and mysterious way.. sometimes it still a wonder to me why Audrey and me still can talk and share just like before.. when we come to an end to our solutions, we know that it is GOD! thank you God!
