Supporting Actor

Two weeks ago, some of you witnessed my inauguration into Pastor Danny’s 12. Reflecting upon my walk learning to be Christian up till that personal milestone, I can only testify that we are where we are only because of the grace that is God. Lest you think this was some achievement or promotion of some sort, think not. I didn’t choose to work my way up, neither did I earn it. Those who know me knows that I’d rather work on being the anti-establishment and rebel of sorts (I would later realize that Jesus was the original anti-establishment and rebel of society). If memory serves me well, I’ve been through depression, doubt, hopelessness and a heart shattered to pieces like grain you’d mistake it for sand. I wouldn’t have thought I’d be capable of being responsible for the lives of others.

Yes. We are the lead characters of this story that is our life, but we won’t really advance much without supporting characters, can we? We are the lead in one story, but we can be a supporting character in the stories of others too (and I’m not talking about being prince charming or the dearly damsel). That was something I realized I could be part of. And in most stories, supporting characters are usually the unsung heroes, but they play their part and they play it well.

If I wasn’t inaugurated, I’ll still be playing my role as a supporting character, whether or not anyone sees it. In fact, being in Pastor’s 12 won’t bring about a dramatic change. I’ll still be doing my laundry and dishes. I’ll still love making music with my band and you might catch that flash of a rebel in me if you’re lucky enough. The only difference is my wanting to be a part of someone’s life story, and I’d do it without taking a paycheck or award nomination.
