Core Motivation For Life

The separating factor between Moses and the people of Israel was their inward motivation for life. Moses wanted to know God and would gladly pay any price to know Him. The children of Israel wanted what was best for them. If the benefit of walking in God's way was evident to their natural senses, then they would gladly embrace it, but if it was not evident, they would gravitate toward what seemed best. To know God will always result in what is best for us, for God is perfect love. However, many times this knowledge will not be evident to the natural senses.

Moses loved God for who He was, Israel loved God for what He could do for them. If what He was doing did not meet their desires, they moved towards what they deemed best. Those in the world desire what will please and gratify their senses or status. That was the way Israel lived, and if obedience to God showed immediate benefits, they would gladly follow.

Moses represents genuine worshippers but the Israelites represent those who profess Jesus as Lord, yet are self seeking. And if following God requires them to sacrifice their desires or what they deemed best, they would turn their back to God.

Are you a follower like Moses or like the Israelites in the wilderness?

Let's keep our hearts in constant check :)
