Are you ashamed of the Lord?
Are you sometimes afraid of saying grace in front of many people in the public? Or often you just mumble your prayer and say it very fast?

Psalms 40:8-10 “I delight to do Your will, O my God. And Your law is within my heart. I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness, in the great assembly; Indeed, I do not restrain my lips, O Lord, you yourself know. I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not concealed Your loving kindness and Your truth From the great assembly.”

“When the waitress brought the food the Moore family had ordered, ten-years old Hannah could hardly wait to eat. “Hannah,” Dad said, “you seem eager to get started, so why don’t you lead us in giving thanks?”

Hannah glanced around the busy restaurant. “Right now?” she asked. “What if the waitress comes back with the ketchup?”

‘I’m sure she won’t mind waiting,” dad replied. They all bowed their heads. Hannah glanced around and mumbled a quick prayer.

“I couldn’t even understand what you said,” Alex complained.
“Me, neither,” Diana agreed. “You talk too fast.”

“I wasn’t praying to you,” Hannah retorted. ”God understood me and he knows I’m thankful.”

“That’s enough, kids.” Dad said. “Hannah’s right. God does know what she prayed---but, honey, Alex and Diana are right, too”

Mom nodded. “Do you find it embarrassing to pray?” she asked.
“Not usually,” Hannah said, “but everybody is watching us here.”

“Who is?” Alex asked, looking at the other tables.
“Well……it feels like everybody is watching us when we all close our eyes,” Hannah said. ”why can’t we pray with our eyes open?”

“It isn’t your eyes that God is concerned about,” dad said. “It’s your heart. Since you are a Christian, Jesus is part of your life just like you’re part of our family’s life. Wouldn’t you feel bad if we left you at home because we didn’t want to be seen talking to you?”

“I guess so,” Hannah admitted.
“But we would never do that,” mom assured her, “because we love you and we’re proud to be with you.”

Hannah was quiet a moment. I wonder how God feels if I’m ashamed to be seen talking to him, she thought. Putting down her fork, she asked, “could I pray again?” mom and dad smiled and nodded.

“Dear God,” Hannah began, and from her heart she thanked God for the food. She finished with a hearty Amen.

“Amen,” another voice repeated beside the table. Hannah looked up and smiled as the waitress handed her the ketchup.

2 timothy 1:8:
“You must never be ashamed to tell others about the Lord.”
