Amazing Grace

Over the past week, God revealed His grace to me, something which I have taken for granted. This led me to know Him even better, as my God, and as my friend.

Grace is something that is given without expecting returns. It is given even though we may not be able to repay it; it is given, even though we do not deserve it- and the greatest grace granted to us by God was His sacrifice of Jesus, His one and only son.

Prior to this, I always think that it is impossible, or even, ridiculous for someone, or almost, anyone, to die for the entire world. However, after understanding the power of God’s grace, I absolutely believe that with God, all things are possible. For my God, who is, in everyone’s expectations and assumptions, majestic, has embraced commonness; my God, who is great and mighty, has embraced insignificance; my God, who is perfect in my definition of a great divine Father, has embraced broken-heartedness.

For the whole of last week, I have been in awed by His repeated affirmation in John 15:16- ‘You did not chose me but I chose you’, I would honestly admit that I do not deserve it- I am just one of the very other six billion people in this world, what made me special for Him to have singled me out? It’s because He has chosen me. I’m usually not very good at judging the value of a person. I remembered during cluster camp last year, I was frustrated over the fact as to why must I submit to someone else’s authority. However, I realised that, I have overestimated myself and underestimated God. And now, the great honour of being chosen by God has finally hit me!

My God, in my definition, is perfect, majestic, holy, great and mighty. If this definition stood, it would mean that I am placed so much beneath Him. As such, I am totally awed when I understood how much God has taken to descend from His level of superiority to adapt to the commonness that we represent.

I think that when we Christians begin to feel ordinary, like any non-believers, it would be because we forgot about God’s grace in our lives. We always pray, hoping that God will solve the problems in our hands, yet we are still worried over it- we never did let go.

My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness’
-2 Corinthians 12:9

It is through our weakness that God’s strength is shown. He will lead us to the everlasting when we no longer think we can; He will lead us to the end of the tunnel, even when we do not deserve it. Indeed, we should do our part by putting in effort in doing our work, but we must not forget God’s grace in whatever we do. After all, it’s 100% God, 100% Man (I finally understood this), after all, there are many things that are out of our control and it is only by the grace of God, can it turn out right- ‘And if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.

I am really thankful for God to have shown this revelation to me this week, and the best example of His grace in my life, even though I have yet to have known Him as Lord and saviour, was the opportunity to receive the scholarship to study in Singapore, even though I wasn’t supposed to be short-listed in the first place (supposedly the top 15 of the class and I was 23rd) ; even though I wasn’t the most qualified after sitting for the entrance test (I did not complete half of my math paper). I walked that path and met Him face to face.

Lord, You just left me stand amazed at Your awesome wonder.
